Unlocking human potential through Spelling to Communicate.

What is Spelling to Communicate?

S2C is an alternative method of communication which involves teaching individuals with sensory-motor differences the purposeful motor skills necessary to point to letters on a letterboard to communicate their thoughts and ideas. Our goal with S2C is to take communication out of the fine motor and employ the purposeful movement of the whole arm. Therefore, taking communication out of the fine motor into the gross motor.

By pointing to letters on an increasing complex series of letterboards our clients are able to communicate their thoughts and ideas, leading to more autonomy and independence. As we presume competence, support our client’s regulation needs and consistently practice the using the arm to point to letters on the letterboard our client will build new motor pathways enabling the brain and body to better communicate!

Apraxia… the missing link.

Apraxia is the most common reason non-speakers have difficulty initiating their intended actions or maintaining momentum to follow through to completion. Therefore, apraxia is the main reason that many non-speakers can’t speak reliably or at all.

Apraxia is a neurological motor condition that happens when the body is not able to execute and adapt to plans made by the brain.  The brain is telling the body what to do but the body cannot carry out the plan.
